Diane Garrett

Vice Chairman

Global philanthropist, community activist, business woman, and organizational leader are just a few of the roles currently managed by Diane Garrett. As Vice Chairman of BetterWorld Together Foundation, Diane oversees all local, national and international grantmaking and venture philanthropy initiatives.

BetterWorld works in three primary areas: Child Development, Health & Environment, and Economic Development. The foundation’s interests include literacy, teacher training, and curriculum enhancement; orphans and vulnerable children; food security; climate change; and enterprise development. Funding is geographically focused in Southern California and East and Southern Africa.

Diane’s core values — equality, compassion, a strong work ethic, and a sense of fairness — were instilled early in her life. These values have evolved into a lifelong commitment to restoring hope and human dignity. She is particularly dedicated to improving the quality of education in her own community and in developing countries, to help children enter adulthood on a level playing field.

In addition to her responsibilities at BetterWorld, Diane also serves on the Board of Advisors of The Garrett Group, her husband’s land and real estate management company. Previously, Diane worked in the commercial insurance industry for 32 years, starting in Omaha, Nebraska with two of Berkshire Hathaway’s companies. During her extensive career, she operated her own agency, worked as an independent agent, and managed the second largest agency in Southern California.

Diane has served as an advisor and active Board member for multiple non-profits in Nebraska and California, most with a focus on helping women and children overcome poverty.
